About Me

Rita Gayle Sanderson I was born and raised in Borger, Texas. It has been a dream of mine to be an artist every since I was young and entered my first paintings in the Phillips Free Fair. I won first, second, and third place that year. In September 1991, I won first place in the Northeast Washington Fair for a pencil drawing. In the 2007 Tri-State Fair of Amarillo, Texas, I won first, third, and honorable mention. It was during that same year I tried my hand at combining my love for drawing and quilting, and won first place in the Hutchinson County Quilt Show for a mixed technique. Because of my exposure in the county and state fairs, I was invited to display my work in local art and craft shows, as well as the Lake Meredith Aquatic & Wildife Museum of Fritch, Texas. In the 2008 Tri-Sate Fair of Amarillo, Texas.I was awarded first place for a pictue of an Indian girl called Minnie Bell. During the 2008 year I was also asked to come back to the Fritch museum to do a Native American art exhibit in pencil and charcoal. In the 2009 Tri-State fair of Amarillo, Texas I won first place on a charcoal drawing called Stick-um-up. I also won third place on a black and white watercolor I did of an Indian mother and Child. During the 2009 year I was asked back again to the FritchMusem for Native Ameican Month. During the month of February, the Fritch Museum had a mock murder mystery "Murder on the High Plans", were I played a character and created a drawing just for the event. I have donated many drawings to charities and fund raisers over the years. My most recent accomplishment was during January & February 2011 Were I exhibited my art work at the The Carson County Square House Museum. The exhibited was on the History of the Texas Panhandal from 1899 to 1946. I have taken art classes at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas under Marlin Adams and at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri under Betty Baker. While in Denver, Colorado, I was personally instructed by Tom Van Demon. However, my real inspriration came from my father who himself was a cowboy. Ever since I was a child I have had a passion for western art. I currently hold a B.A. in Childrens Ministry and Biblical Studies and have served as a missionary in Washington State. I work in the public school system, and I also an a ventriloquist working with a puppet ministry at my local church. My medium in art is charcoal and pencil, however, I have worked in oils and have a desire to explore sculpting.
